Contact Lenses
Contact Lens Exam
During your contact lens exam our optometrist will ask you about your lifestyle and preferences, this will help determine which kind of contact lenses to prescribe you with. Some contact lenses may be better for athletes with active lifestyles, for instance; others may be better for frequent travelers who might need to occasionally sleep in their contacts. The doctor will also ask you about whether you prefer reusable contact lenses such a biweekly or monthly, if you’d like daily disposables which you have to throw out every night after use. If you have a higher prescription where you might need both distance and reading correction, there is a contact lens equivalent to a progressive glasses lens, it’s called a multifocal contact lens. This lens will allow you to see both distance and reading.
Our optometrist will also need to gather several measurements. The most common is the curvature of your cornea, your eye’s clear front surface. In some cases, your pupil and iris size will also be measured. If you tend to have dry eyes, we may also perform a tear film evaluation to make sure you’re prescribed contact lenses that keep your eyes sufficiently moisturized.
